As early as 1994, InfoGraffiti Inc. entered the new economy emerging field of computer aided translation (CAT). At first, InfoGraffiti’s interest in CAT took the form of an association with Globalink, followed a few years later by another one with Systran. It did not take long for the corporation to appreciate the potential and actual usefulness of machine translation, but also to understand its limitations. This lead InfoGraffiti to engage in the very promising technologies of translation memories et terminology management.
InfoGraffiti’s involvement in the early stages of the CAT sector became an active contribution with the development of computer aided translation tools at a time when they were few and badly needed. From the Dictionnary Generator (1994), to XTracTerm (1995), ProMemoria (1997) and SynchroTerm (2000), InfoGraffiti relentlessly seeks to bring to translators and terminologists stand alone softwares and other complementary CAT tools which fit their needs.
Together with software development, InfoGraffiti offers translation firms and departments, consulting, sale, installation, integration, training and technical support services in the field of computer aided translation. Its role as a CAT consultant and integrator brings BridgeTerm, a division created in 1997 by InfoGraffiti to regroup all of its CAT activities, to seek value added resale (VAR) agreements with the main manufacturers of CAT softwares. thus in 2000, BridgeTerm becomes the first, and so far the only, authorized Trados reseller in North America. In 2001, BridgeTerm signs a contract with MultiCorpora for the resale of their MultiTrans software. Then again in 2002, similar agreements follow with Odissey and Terminotix, for, respectively, Isys and LogiTerm. BridgeTerm. is always seeking new partnerships which will enable the corporation to offer its customers the best available CAT solutions on the market.
