ProMemoria optimally combines various translation, terminology, dictionary creation, phrase memory and post-editing tools. ProMemoria aims to rationalize translation activities in terms of speed, costs, coherence and management.
ProMemoria consists of a number of components integrated around Microsoft Word. These components cooperate in a transparent way to maximize productivity gains offered by translation memory, automatic translation, terminological extraction and post-editing utilities.
Various means of text input will be offered: conversion filters for various word processing, desktop publishing, automatic dictation and OCR software. Output filters maintain formatting when exporting to other software.
Using various Fuzzy Logic components for phrase alignment and comparison analysis, ProMemoria can find segments (complete or partial sentences) of a text to translate in a database (translation memory) to generate exact or approximative concordances with memorized sentences. These sentences are directly imported into the target document and are not submitted to the translation process. The rest of the text is then sent to the Automatic Translation component.
Terminological Extraction Component
For automatic translation to give good results, the program must have at its disposal dictionaries that are at once complete and adapted to the source document.
The terminology extraction component extracts expressions from the text, proposes existing translations and gives access to existing terminological tools. The culling engine created by BridgeTerm can automatically generate specific dictionaries for machine translation.
Automatic Translation Component
The Systran software receives the sentences to translate and, with the help of specific dictionaries, gives the user a machine translation which must be "post-edited" by a human translator assisted by automatic tools. The sentences translated by Systran, which the translator can at any time accept, correct or refuse, are then imported into the target document and into the translation memory.
Optional Additional Components
The ProMemoria platform can be extended with various functions and tools for administration, full-text search, textual database, translation validation, etc.
As a whole, ProMemoria will help the user, after a certain learning and customization period, achieve very important productivity gains, which can reach 75% in some cases. The MS Word environment is familiar to most users which constitutes a significant help in quickly learning to use the system. ProMemoria is intended for translation and multilingual documentation professionals to which it offers a user-friendly environment and multiple possibilities to adapt its functionality to suit his specific needs.
